Cafe Figaro
Another hidden gem, Café Figaro is located in an obscure strip mall behind a Walgreen’s Drug store on Tamiami Trail N. Even with GPS we had a little trouble locating this divine little Bistro. Greeted by Zinnia who is the sister of owner and chef . We were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. Warm bread and ice water magically appeared. An excellent glass of Hess 2013 Pinot Noir started the evening for my two companions, good enough that my friend asked for the label so he could see if it was available for purchase at his favorite wine vendor.
Summer specials included a Veal Chop and Sea Bass, dinners include salad of your choice and surprisingly good scalloped potatoes with a vegetable (asparagus this night). Our threesome each ordered a different entrée to so we could each evaluate the meal. I was the only one to order an appetizer and I chose the Crab Cakes with remoulade, There were three on the plate although they looked small on the plate they were excellent in that there was no filler, just crab and the remoulade was reminicent of New Orleans. We each had a delicious crispy Caesar salad, fresh greens and a delightful dressing. I opted for the Sea Bass special. It was a generous serving of delicious milky white and flaky fish done perfectly and served with an interesting Mango Salsa.
Some of the finer restaurants in Naples still don’t know how to prepare fish properly, this one should give them lessons. One of my companions had the other nightly special The Veal Chop. She loves Veal chop and we don’t often see it on menus. This one was a good size and prepared medium perfectly, the chef knows his stuff. Our other companion had the Rack of Lamb, it was also done to perfection.
We topped off the evening by sharing the house special dessert and a fresh cup of coffee. Our biggest surprise of the evening came with the bill, it was far less than we expected. A novel idea in Naples fine dining at a fare price.
