Alberto’s on Fifth
Fine Italian
Our party of eight arrived for an early dinner experience at Alberto’s on Fifth.
None of us had ever eaten here before so it was a new experience for all of us. The first to arrive were greeted and seated, however as the rest of us arrived we had to find our own way to our friends. Once we were all seated the wait person explained that the early bird dinner special from 4 pm to 5:30 pm included a free glass of white or red house wine and took our orders.
The menu was limited to several first course selections and several second course selection. See the selections here:

I chose for my starter:
Guazzetto di Cozze con la Bruschetta all’Aglio
“Steamed Mussels in a Light Tomato Sauce served with Grilled Garlic Bread.”
Unfortunately due to a mix up in the kitchen my choice was not served with everyone else’s and I had to wait an extra 10 minutes before I was served. The mussels were fine but the grilled Garlic bread was soggy from being enclosed in the covered dish that the mussels were served in.
My main course choice was:
Pappardelle servite con Ragu alla Bolognese
“Homemade Wide Ribbon Pasta tossed with Bolognese style Veal Ragout”
The chef’s interpretation of Bolognese was very tasty but not what I was expecting. A true Bolognese is a meat sauce with just a touch of tomato. This Bolognese was primarily a tomato sauce with meat.
The wait person was very business like with little personality.
I will give Alberto another chance to redeem himself, maybe it was just an off night.
